Relationship Temperature Check

How often is this true?
“She replies to my messages within a day or two.”
No sign-up needed. Your answers stay on your device.
The turn
When the door closes, most mothers push harder.
They call more, ask more, and try harder. It usually makes the door close a little more.
Porch Light teaches the opposite: less pressure, more listening, and small warm gestures that ask for nothing back.
“You can’t control her door. You can control how warm the porch is when she opens it.”

Why this happens
It’s usually no one’s fault.
A new family is finding its own way. That can feel like being left out, even when no one means it that way.

She’s building her own family’s way of doing things.
New routines and rules are a healthy part of starting a family.
Your son is in the middle and trying to keep the peace.
Asking him to carry messages puts him in a hard spot.
Small comments can land bigger than you meant.
A tip about naps can sound like a verdict on her parenting.
Researchers who surveyed mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law found that unclear roles are one of the most common sources of strain.

- Not a way to get your son to take sides.
- Not legal advice.
- Not a promise that anyone else will change.
It’s a way to change the part you control, kindly and steadily.

Questions
Something else on your mind? Write to hello@porchlight.lectro.app and a real person will reply.
What if she won’t respond at all?
That’s common, especially early on. The plan never depends on a reply. You’ll focus on what you can do: lower the pressure, send kind messages that ask for nothing, and look after your own life too.
If things have been silent for a long time, we’ll also suggest talking with a licensed family therapist.
What if my son tells me to stop?
Then stop, kindly. Respecting a clear request is part of the method, not a failure of it.
The course shows you how to step back without cutting yourself off: a short, warm reply with no argument in it, then time. The lesson “When to step back, and when to get help” covers this in detail.
Is this legal advice about grandparent visitation?
No. Grandparent visitation laws exist and vary by state, and courts give strong weight to parents’ decisions about their children. In Troxel v. Granville (2000), the US Supreme Court held that fit parents are presumed to act in their children’s best interests.
Going to court usually does lasting harm to family relationships, and this course doesn’t teach or promote it. For a legal question, talk with a family-law attorney in your state.
Is this therapy?
No. Porch Light is an educational course. If you’re dealing with a long estrangement, a cutoff, or a lot of distress of your own, a licensed family therapist can help in ways a course can’t, and we’ll say so in the plan.
Can I do this on my tablet?
Yes. Porch Light works in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install. You can make the text larger, and every lesson can be played as audio.
Is there audio?
Every lesson has an audio version and a transcript. The audio keeps playing with the screen off, so you can listen like a podcast.
What if it’s not right for me?
You have 30 days. If it doesn’t feel right for your family, email hello@porchlight.lectro.app and we’ll refund every cent. No questions asked.
What if a child may be in danger?
Please don’t use relationship steps for that. If a child may be in danger, contact your local child protective services, or call 911 in an emergency.

Leave the porch light on.
A few minutes a day, starting with you.
